Lee lacocca, looking to bolster the sporty image of the not so- fast Mustang, contacted race car legend Carroli Shelby (who was already involved with Ford in the successful GT -40 program) to help put some kick in the Mustang. The car was fitted with 306 horse- power 289 V-8 and four- -speed manual gearbox Koni shock absorbers and stiffer anti-roll bars beefed-up the suspension and the whole car was lowered one inch for 30 percent decrease in body roll. As it was with the Model T, any paint scheme was available on the GT 350 long as it was Wimbledon white with two blue stripes scneme
